I’ll start right now by saying that this article might be seen as being chuck full of white privilege. I’m a 53-year-old white male so that is my experience with the human condition. I’m still open to change and often do when it seems reasonable and I’m able to tell my brain to “just deal with the cognitive dissonance, mother fucker. This time you’re just wrong.”

I was born in 1968. Another time when many in this county thought we were on the verge of a civil war. America was in serious trouble between the quagmire of Vietnam and the civil rights movement among other politically charged subtleties from the left and right.

Long story short, here’s what happened.

Nothing.

The 2nd civil war never happened.

Most agreed to disagree and that was that. The problems we’re plagued with today were still there then, we all just got along anyway. We carried on and quietly fumed but kept working on better solutions regardless of differences. We found compromise was better than murder. Amazing, right!!??
