A while back I wrote this:

I don’t recycle and neither should you.

Today I found yet more evidence that America’s plastic recycling programs are totally full of shit and always have been. As far as plastics go, the whole thing was and still is a scam by plastics manufacturers. They knew right from the start that “recycling” would not work. Most of the plastic they make can’t be recycled just due to its chemical makeup. Most of the rest needs to be cleaned so thoroughly that the processing makes it pointless.

Bottom line: they decided to greenwash the problem with lies instead of researching, developing, and manufacturing materials that break down like paper, cardboard, or glass.

Only 5% of all plastic sent to “recycling” actually gets recycled. Almost all of that stuff you dutifully waste your time sorting ends up in your local landfill anyways.
