I’m sick of living like this.
Optimism just seems utterly ridiculous.
“Billionaire bunkers.”
“Martian Colonies.”
“Space Tourism.”
What do these three things have in common? They are the brainchildren of the billionaires who have given up on the societies that made them rich.
They now only want this world, this universe, for themselves. The rest of us should be happy as their slaves, they seem to believe.
Full disclosure, I have some stock in Amazon, Microsoft, and a bunch of other mostly destructive causes because, fuck it all, yes I’m going to hedge my bets in the middle of a dystopia.
It doesn’t matter. It's a drop in the bucket of what any financial planner would call a real “retirement plan.”
I am 55 years old.
I’m tired.
My fight is gone and there is nowhere else to run. I know we’ll need something to sustain us in what time is left and money is as good a bet as anything else. We want to pick up the pace on our ceramics business but again we know this helps no one but ourselves.
