Make Russia the enemy again.
We’ve had it too easy in America. The “end” of the cold war left a huge enemy vacuum for us. It's time to relive some of the 80s again.
It seems that when America gets too much unchallenged power we start to implode. With no global existential threats to be afraid of we start looking inward for scapegoats. Terrorism does not count.
“Terrorism” is the worst possible enemy for us. Sure, lately, white nationalists are the focus but it's still bad for us. It's doing nothing but dividing us even further. It’s already falling apart as a “useful” enemy. It’s just being twisted back around and the focus of hate is landing pretty much on brown people again.
Yeah, there are lots of brown people countries to hate, of course, but the “original” 9/11 “terrorists” were mostly from Saudi Arabia. As a country though, they are our “allies” because of oil. Can’t really justify a full-on escalating cold war just because of a few bad apples. Right? The dots connecting state-funded terrorism never really happen with enough appeal for the whole of America to get on board.
Iran? Afghanistan? Whatever. No one cares, certainly not enough to unify our nation.
